The man who was always there" was the description given by Mr. F. Stephenson, seputy chief fire officer in the North Riding, when he made a presentation last night to Mr. Jack Andrew who has retired as officer in charge of Loftus Fire Brigade. 
Joining the service in 1923 he had been in charge at Loftus for 26 years. 
Mr. Stephenson presented an automatic tea maker to Mr. Andrew, a gift from his colleagues and a bouquet was presented to Mrs. Andrew. 
Fred Grey, who succeeds Mr. Andrew presided.
